Students’ Rights & Responsibilities

Austin Community College (ACC) students are expected to conduct themselves appropriately, assume responsibility for their own behavior, and respect the learning environment for others in the College community. To ensure a respectful learning environment for all members of the College community, student rights, and responsibilities, and student discipline policies have been established at the College.

Student Standards of Conduct

Student Standards of Conduct establish the rights of the student and behavioral expectations. Our campus community values integrity, respect, and fairness. All students are expected to abide by these standards.

We encourage you to review the Student Standards of Conduct with your students on the 1 first day of class and include them in your syllabus. The policy includes the student’s right to due process, disciplinary action procedures, and appeals processes.

Issues pertaining to violations of the Student Standards of Conduct policy must be reported to the Dean/Associate Dean of Student Affairs using the Conduct Notification Report.

Academic Integrity

Austin Community College (ACC) values academic integrity in the educational process. Acts of academic dishonesty/misconduct undermine the learning process, present a disadvantage to students who earn credit honestly and subvert the academic mission of the institution. The potential consequences of fraudulent credentials raise additional concerns for individuals and communities beyond campus who rely on institutions of higher learning to certify students’ academic achievements and expect to benefit from the claimed knowledge and skills of their graduates.

Student Complaints

Student complaints are divided into two types: non-academic complaints and non-grade student complaints. Non-academic complaints are related to (but not limited to) issues with College services and offices, or interactions with employees. Non-grade student complaints are related to the final course grade. Students should first discuss this type of complaint with their instructor.

Report an Incident

Reporting concerns and incidents to College officials is beneficial to our students’ and employees’ success and safety. Reporting also strengthens the mission of the College and our educational environment. Visit the Report an Incident page to complete the appropriate form to help ensure prompt notification to the proper College official. Contact the Dean of Students Affairs Office for questions or assistance.
