Cancelled Classes
Adjunct Compensation for Classes Cancelled During the Week Before Classes Begin
The Austin Community College (ACC) District values the contributions of adjunct faculty, and intends to, as much as possible, allow adjunct faculty to plan their teaching schedules with consistency. To support this goal, the College has established the following policy to compensate adjunct faculty whose classes are cancelled, or who are bumped, during the week prior to the beginning of a semester.
Courses Eligible for Compensation
Adjunct faculty will be compensated for an assigned section that is cancelled, or for being bumped, when the section cancellation, or bumping, occurs during the week before classes begin. Sections that are cancelled prior to this time are not eligible for compensation. Adjuncts that are bumped prior to this time are not eligible for compensation.
If the cancelled or bumped course section is replaced with another course section, there will be no additional compensation.
Compensation for Eligible Courses
Adjuncts whose sections are cancelled, or who are bumped, during the week prior to classes starting will receive the following:
-
- If the course section is not replaced with another, the faculty member will receive $300 as compensation for preparation and other time invested in the course prior to the course being cancelled or transferred to another faculty member. If the adjunct faculty member has two sections of the same course cancelled, the faculty member will receive $450. If the adjunct faculty member has two sections of two different courses cancelled, s/he will receive $600.
- An adjunct faculty member whose course section is cancelled, or who is bumped, and whose course section is not replaced with another, may choose an optional hourly assignment in lieu of the $300 compensation. This alternate assignment will be as an on-line tutor, or faculty mentor. The assignment will be for 50 hours at $30 per hour for a total of $1500 for the semester. The specific allocation of the hours will be determined with the supervisor of the assigned area and will be based primarily on student need. Adjunct faculty selecting on-line tutoring will generally be supervised by Learning Support Services. The supervisor of adjunct faculty selecting faculty mentoring will generally be supervised by the appropriate Dean or Department Chair. Appointment to an alternative assignment pursuant to this policy is only effective for the semester in which the adjunct faculty member is appointed.
