Third Course Attempt Fee
Austin Community College (ACC) charges an additional fee for students registering for a course for the third time or more. This fee applies to credit and Continuing Education courses and includes course attempts made since the Fall 2002 semester.
ACC cannot receive state funding for courses a student takes three or more times. The “third attempt” fee was implemented to help the college recover some of the costs of these courses.
The third attempt rule does not apply to developmental and other select courses.
Undergraduate Six-Withdrawal Limit
State law permits students to withdraw from no more than six courses during their entire undergraduate career at Texas public colleges or universities. All course withdrawals automatically count toward the limit unless the:
-
- Student withdraws from all courses.
- Student or the course is exempt from the rule.
- Student receives an exception authorized by College officials.
Once students reach their withdrawal limit, they must remain on the class roll unless they request and receive approval for a withdrawal exception. For exceptions, exemptions, and the exception request process see the ACC Catalog: Six-Withdrawal Limit page.
